Richard began his career as a freelance humorous illustrator working mainly for children's magazines, greeting card companies, and educational publishers. After ten years his work no longer satisfied him, and he began seeking other options, not just artistic, but whole different ways of marketing his work as well. This eventually led him to posters and licensing, and someday, he hopes, a publishing company of his own.
“I love design and composition, which makes posters ideal. And I've always been drawn to the images and styles from the past. Once I stumbled on the notion of doing prints and posters in the styles of the 20th century, art deco, cubism, arts & crafts movement, 20's illustration, and 50's advertising, I realized I'd found the perfect fit. I've never done work that is more satisfying, or closer to my artistic ideals. I only wish I'd thought of it sooner.”
He lives and works in Portland Oregon.
